North Coast 500

2nd to 8th June 2019

7 Days

Welcome to the iconic North Coast 500. Scotland’s answer to Americas’ Route 66. This incredible drive around the north coast of Scotland will include some of the finest driving roads, epic scenery and to top it all you will stay and dine in 4 and 5 star hotels that provide exquisite dishes with fresh local produce and where you will experience their fabulous facilities in stunning surroundings.

Scotland’s Route 500 has an abundance of distilleries, castles, gardens, viewpoints and historical sites so we have designed each day to have no more than 3 to 5 ½  hours of driving time giving you the opportunity to explore one or more of the recommended places to visit to discovering your own must see view point or historical place of interest.

Itinerary

Your Arrival - Day One

Upon your arrival to The Lovat Hotel in Fort Augustus where we will gather in the bar and lounge area at 6:30 pm where we will welcome everyone to our tour and talk you through the itinerary of what’s to come. The evening then is yours to enjoy your surroundings.

Day Two

Today will gather at 10:00 in the village of Invermoriston just a ten minute drive from the hotel and where you can admire the famous Thomas Telford Bridge that crosses the spectacular River Moriston Falls. Invermoriston will mark the the start of our epic journey across Scotland’s North Coast 500. After a photo start we take the road that hugs the coastline to Wick arriving at the stunning Ackergill Tower Hotel.

Day Three

After breakfast we shall again meet at 10:00 for the second day of our tour. Just a few miles north of Wick you arrive at the second most northerly point of mainland Britain - John O’Groats where you will be met by dramatic, unspoilt scenery. Heading West we pass the Castle of Mey and traversing the coastline road to Durness which is situated amidst wonderful mountain scenery. The coastal road takes a turn inland and meaders south past Kylestrome, Ardvreck Castle and to Lochinver. Here we spend our third night at the Inverlodge Hotel, a luxurious Scottish 4 star retreat.

Day Four

Our journey along the spectacular Scottish coastline continues south past Ullapool and towards the Falls of Measach. Turning West we pass Gairloch with awe-inspiring scenery of Wester Ross. We wind our way along the shoreline towards the wild Applecross Peninsular. Here is the chance to drive the Bealach na Ba Pass. This single track road with hairpin bends is not for the faint hearted but you will be rewarded with at the very top with magnificent views. If the Bealach na Ba Pass is not for you you can choose the inner road from Shieldaig to Ardarroch. Just a short journey on and we cross the spectacular Skye Bridge into the romantic Isle of Skye. Here we take the few miles to the Duisdale Hotel where we have two nights to soak up the undisputed scenery of the Isle of Skye.

Day Five

Wake up to a day at leisure to explore the beautiful scenic roads on the Isle of Skye and the many visitor attractions.

Day Six

Our journey makes a spectacular end as we depart Skye crossing the Skye Bridge and onto Eilean Donan Castle. The Jacobite rebellion in 1715 all but destroyed the castle which lay in ruins for 200 years, a 20 year restoration project allowed the castle to open in 1986 and a bridge was added to allow easy of access instead of travelling by boat. Today it is an undisputed icon of Scotland and is a must visit. We cross Shiel Bridge and take in the Five Sisters as we drive towards the finishing line of Invermoriston for a photo finish.

Departing Invermoriston we recommend taking the road through the Cairngorms national park before arriving at the Dunalastair Hotels Suites to celebrate in style with a finale buffet dinner.
